MEET THE ARTIST: Margaret Solow

Los Angeles designer Margaret Solow has a way of making jewelry feel almost weightless. Inspired by art, travel, philosophy, and the natural world, she strips each design down to its simplest form, leaving the gemstone to do the talking.

A tiny tourmaline, a piece of turquoise, a rustic diamond, each stone is chosen for its individual character rather than conventional perfection. Natural inclusions, unexpected color, irregular shapes, and subtle variations become part of what makes a piece beautiful. There’s a quiet nod to the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi here: an appreciation for the imperfect, the impermanent, and the wonderfully natural.

Many of Solow’s signature pieces suspend petite gemstones from fine nylon cord, creating an almost floating effect. The simplicity is intentional. Without a heavy setting or elaborate framework competing for attention, the stone becomes the focal point, and the jewelry feels effortless, personal, and easy to wear.

Often described as “anti-bling,” Solow’s work is understated without ever feeling ordinary. Her handmade jewelry celebrates natural materials, thoughtful design, and the idea that a little bit of color and character can go a long way. She also maintains a commitment to responsible manufacturing, including the use of sustainable elements and non-conflict gemstones.

We love Margaret’s pieces for exactly that reason: they feel grounding but elevated. Pops of color and one-of-a-kind gemstones bring a little power and positivity to any necklace or stack. Delicate without feeling precious, they’re quiet enough for every day but each tiny stone has a personality all its own.
